
Facebook just announced that they acquired the mobile photo service Instagram. According to their press release explained that the deal is approximately $ 1 billion dollars, distributed in cash and Facebook shares.
In his profile the founder and owner of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg explained the acquisition and their thoughts:
“I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.
For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.”
What is Instagram?
Instagram is a social network where you can share photographs taken from a mobile device iPhone for which it was designed the app. What makes this app famous are the different filters that can be applied to photos and then have the option to share the photo on the various social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare & Tumblr.
This company was founded in San Francisco California by Kevin Storm and Mike Krieguer in which focused on giving features of HTML5 to mobile photography. The app was released in the App Store on October 6, 2010.
By August of 2011 were 150 million photos uploaded and April 2012 were 30 million active accounts.
As mentioned Instagram was developed for the iPhone OS from Apple but since last Tuesday April 3rd this application is available for Android. In the press release instagram says: “You can find exactly the same filter to account for the IOS.” Within 24 hours the app was downloaded from the Android Store Play 1,000,000 times.
